The Challenge

“We are in a high-technology industry and need to illustrate this through our induction programme. Use of video, audio and high quality animation were essential. Bourne supported our objectives by delivering an extremely high quality product.”

Channel Television, the independent television franchise for the Channel Islands, wanted an induction programme that supported their status as leaders in the broadcast field. They needed a creative approach that differentiated their programme from anything they had seen - one that was unique to in their industry. Above all, their course needed to be rich in media and stimulating for the user.

Specific requirements included:

  • Interactive and visually appealing programme which involved the user at every stage
  • Designed specifically for the broadcast industry, utilising appropriate imagery and metaphors
  • The ability to use the course within their induction programme and to play in their reception area for marketing purposes.

Bourne's Solution

Bourne designed and developed a learner-centred course based on a tour of a television studio. It illustrated the major areas of the studio and was adaptable for use as a training course, as well as a marketing support vehicle. Key features included:

  • Interactivity in every section to allow the trainee to experience working in each area of a television studio. Hands-on exercises and real-time feedback enabled realistic simulation of each environment
  • An overview, explore and interaction tutorial process to illustrate the features of a broadcasting studio, video editing suite, dubbing suite and sound studio
  • Integrated video, audio, strong graphics and high quality animation to provide a stimulating user experience and reduce the requirement for text as the prime delivery media
  • Development of the television metaphor throughout the course, utilising a remote control as the course menu, replica video buttons and screens, and graphic montage effects to personalise the product for Channel Television.
